Paris!

So John very casually asked me yesterday as we drove along . . . so you don't want to Hawii (looks boring if you aren't a sun lover) and I don't want to go to Mexico (drug wars) so what about going to Paris? Would you mind that??

WTF - no dear that would be fine. :D :D :D
How big of a grin can I give - it will be 25 years together this October 27 and I think the city of love sounds amazing to spend it in.

How increadibly romantic.

So anyone with any sugestions or warnings about Paris in particular or Europe in general. I have never been outside the continential US / Cnd.

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
- You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff!

It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

Things I didn't do . . .

I had many good habits in 07 that some how got lost in 08 - 2009 they will make a return.
Mostly things about simple stuff such as walking on the treadmill, and such.

I am going to work on my web page so that one can google it and actually find it - with work I am going to get it into the first two pages
I am going to get my taxi licence so that between John and I we will keep the lease being paid all 365 days this year - either another driver takes it out or we will.

We are working on a three year plan to remove our consumer debts. This means camping on the island will be the highlight of the year.
Oh and the children's birthdays as they will be 13 and 16 and than the fact that this Oct John and I will have been together for a quarter of a century. That just flips me out, it is so cool.

I also am hoping to see you all more. Just because we aren't around the SCA much anymore doesn't mean we have no interest in spending time. So maybe that can happen.

When politically correctness goes too far

A Politically Correct Christmas Story

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves".
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labour conditions at the North Pole
were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid
Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his sleigh;
The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.
And people had started to call for the cops
When they heard sled noises on their rooftops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite frightened.
His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened."

And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorised use of his nose
And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,
Demanding millions in over-due compensation.
So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,
Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life,

Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,
Demanding from now on her title was Ms.
And as for the gifts, why, he'd never had a notion
That making a choice could cause so much commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,
Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her.

Nothing that might be construed to pollute.
Nothing to aim, Nothing to shoot.
Nothing that clamoured or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls, or just for the boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacifistic.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.
And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,
Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.
For they raised the hackles of those psychological
Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt;
Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe;
And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.
So Santa just stood there, dishevelled, perplexed;
He just could not figure out what to do next.

He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,
But you've got to be careful with that word today.
His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;
Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.
Something special was needed, a gift that he might
Give to all without angering the left or the right.

A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,
Each group of people, every religion;
Every ethnicity, every hue,
Everyone, everywhere...even you.
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...
May you and your loved ones, enjoy peace on Earth.

we just found a black widow spider

Kate and a friend were playing in her room and they saw a spider.
So they trapped it and we came in to get it and when I saw the round abdomen I started to wonder.
I went and looked west coast spiders and I am reasonably sure it is a black widow.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewww.

British news paper salutes Canada . . .

British news paper salutes Canada . . . this is a good read. It is funny how it took someone in England to put it into words... Sunday Telegraph Article From today's UK wires:

Salute to a brave and modest nation - Kevin Myers, 'The Sunday Telegraph' LONDON:

Until the deaths of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan , probably almost no one outside their home country had been aware that Canadian troops are deployed in the region.

And as always, Canada will bury its dead, just as the rest of the world, as always will forget its sacrifice, just as it always forgets nearly everything Canada ever does.. It seems that Canada's historic mission is to come to the selfless aid both of its friends and of complete strangers, and then, once the crisis is over, to be well and truly ignored.

Canada is the perpetual wallflower that stands on the edge of the hall, waiting for someone to come and ask her for a dance. A fire breaks out, she risks life and limb to rescue her fellow dance-goers, and suffers serious injuries. But when the hall is repaired and the dancing resumes, there is Canada, the wallflower still, while those she once helped Glamorously cavort across the floor, blithely neglecting her yet again.

That is the price Canada pays for sharing the North American continent with the United States, and for being a selfless friend of Britain in two global conflicts.

For much of the 20th century, Canada was torn in two different directions: It seemed to be a part of the old world, yet had an address in the new one, and that divided identity ensured that it never fully got the gratitude it deserved.

Yet it's purely voluntary contribution to the cause of freedom in two world wars was perhaps the greatest of any democracy.Almost 10% of Canada 's entire population of seven million people served in the armed forces during the First World War, and nearly 60,000 died. The great Allied victories of 1918 were spearheaded by Canadian troops, perhaps the most capable soldiers in the entire British order of battle.

Canada was repaid for its enormous sacrifice by downright neglect, it's unique contribution to victory being absorbed into the popular Memory as somehow or other the work of the 'British.'

The Second World War provided a re-run. The Canadian navy began the war with a half dozen vessels, and ended up policing nearly half of the Atlantic against U-boat attack. More than 120 Canadian warships participated in the Normandy landings, during which 15,000 Canadian soldiers went ashore on D-Day alone.

Canada finished the war with the third-largest navy and the fourth largest air force in the world. The world thanked Canada with the same sublime indifference as it had the previous time.

Canadian participation in the war was acknowledged in film only if it was necessary to give an American actor a part in a campaign in which the United States had clearly not participated - a touching scrupulousness which, of course, Hollywood has since abandoned, as it has any notion of a separate Canadian identity.

So it is a general rule that actors and filmmakers arriving in Hollywood keep their nationality - unless, that is, they are Canadian. Thus Mary Pickford, Walter Huston, Donald Sutherland, Michael J. Fox, William Shatner, Norman Jewison, David Cronenberg, Alex Trebek, Art Linkletter and Dan Aykroyd have in the popular perception become American, and Christopher Plummer, British.

It is as if, in the very act of becoming famous, a Canadian ceases to be Canadian, unless she is Margaret Atwood, who is as unshakably Canadian as a moose, or Celine Dion, for whom Canada has proved quite unable to find any takers.

Moreover, Canada is every bit as querulously alert to the achievements of its sons and daughters as the rest of the world is completely unaware of them. The Canadians proudly say of themselves - and are unheard by anyone else - that 1% of the world's population has provided 10% of the world's peacekeeping forces.

Canadian soldiers in the past half century have been the greatest peacekeepers on Earth - in 39 missions on UN mandates, and six on non-UN peacekeeping duties, from Vietnam to East Timor, from Sinai to Bosnia.

Yet the only foreign engagement that has entered the popular non-Canadian imagination was the sorry affair in Somalia, in which out-of-control paratroopers murdered two Somali infiltrators. Their regiment was then disbanded in disgrace - a uniquely Canadian act of self-abasement for which, naturally, the Canadians received no international credit.

So who today in the United States knows about the stoic and selfless friendship its northern neighbour has given it in Afghanistan?

Rather like Cyrano de Bergerac, Canada repeatedly does honourable things for honourable motives, but instead of being thanked for it, it remains something of a figure of fun. It is the Canadian way, for which Canadians should be proud, yet such honour comes at a high cost. This past year more grieving Canadian families knew that cost all too tragically well.

Lest we forget.

*********************

Please pass this on to any of your friends or relatives who served in the Canadian Forces or anyone who is proud to be Canadian; it is a wonderful tribute to those who choose to serve their country and the world in our quiet Canadian way.

Between Nov 11, 2007 and November 11, 2008 there were 22 Canadian Soldiers killed in Afghanastan and nearly 4 times that returned home wounded. In addition 3 Canadian Aid workers were killed. Lest we forget those we send out to stand between the darkness and the light.

business

So a friend recently mentioned to me that I haven’t really explained what the business really is.

I think I avoided going into it as it is a multi-facetted business that I have no idea if it will go. :D

But the explanation is this:

Top layer is

Seamless Services and Events. This is the parent company that all others are run through. Under this umbrella is

Concierge services (any ideas of how to promote this one would be happily accepted)

I will make reservations for Hotels, theatre tickets, tours, and more.

Do it yourself – I have done some writing and need to do more for each holiday/season and need to learn more about how to get bigger hits on google to promote it. I am also going to add Google Ads and with any luck it that will create enough income to pay for the site itself.

Classes – currently taking up the most time. I have hired a teacher, rented a site, made a pamphlet (catalogue) and am ready to start taking registration. These classes are for Grades 8 – 10 and the first class is Positive Study Habits. I have almost finished making the pamphlet the web site is up with registration page and I think it is about ready to go.

My horoscope says that my wishes will come true today so I wish that this will get full registration! ;)

Last but certainly not least is Victorian High Tea – High Tea in your home, with service from a Victorian Maid.

The web site address is

Hoshi

Hoshi has thrown up a little bile and had an upset tummy. Twice. The day before he was to be nutered. The vet has canceled the operation both times. This time I asked her to run a blood panel to see if there is anything going on that we need to worry about. She refused as "he wasn't feeling well'. WTF?!?
So we changed vets. He did a pre-op check on Hoshi that was very through and took blood for the panel. He is booked on Tuesday with the new vet for the neuter. I also changed food to a whole food diet, he has gone from being a finiky eater who was loosing weight to cleaning his bowl. I am very happy with how the new guy is dealing with it. He said he couldn't find anything wrong and agrees with me that it was probably pre-op stress (picked up from his parents :(

Otherwise he is fine and I think we will all feel better after he is done.

Life isnt crappy! It's great!

Today was my first high tea.
It was great!

There were four old ladies and they were dressed in chicken suits.
They were delighted with me, the table, the tea and did I mention me?

Kate and I thought we were late (but before the apointed time just thought we would after the hostess) but got their before the hostess so it was all good. I had the table compleatly set and the tea ready by the time she arrived and it looked lovely. They were dressed in chicken suits!
They took pictures and than we did the chicken dance, in the middle of the square.

I than took Kate to gymnastics and went back. I wondered by and saw that they were having a good time and freshened their tea and went into the nearby shops so they didn't feel I was hovering.

Eventually one of the ladies waved me over and they were about done and thanked me for everything and they were delighted with everything and thought I was polite and it was wonderful.
The nice scottish lady thought I was great and talked about the fact she knows a nice scottish family who lived here and than were sent back and than moved here again (could it be Alex friend and his family come back from Scotland? how many scotish familys could that have happened to?) and wouldn't it be lovely if I came and did a tea? I agreed.

THAN when I was cleaning up a shopkeep came by and were talking about wouldn't it be nice if going for a walk with his girlfriend and 'came across me and tea' and wouldn't his mother be delighted the next time she came to town.

So two potential clients and paid for this tea! Whoo hoo.

Happy happy
